In 1951, the Sterling Motor Truck Company was purchased by the White Motor Company and all Sterling trucks were branded Sterling-White. This 1951 Sterling-White Model HD 2254 is one of the early trucks made by the merged companies. Sterling trucks were high quality trucks, and one of the first to offer Cummins diesel engines as factory option. In 1953, White purchased Autocar and discontinued the Sterling brand. This truck came from California and originally had a bed on back. It pulled a short trailer with a steerable front axle, which is very common even today in California for use on roads that are too curvy for a semi-trailer. The truck has a wood-framed cab and a two-part front windshield with crank opening. This is mostly late ‘40s styling, but it did sell well. It is a totally basic truck. With only 150 HP, if you were crossing a mountain pass with a load, you could probably have walked faster than this truck was driving. Top Speed: 50 MPH
