1939 International Armored

Engine Type:
6-Cylinder 213.24 Cubic Inch

Transmission Type:
3-Speed

Truck Information:
Though International made their D-series trucks from 1937 until 1941, this 1939 International Armored Police Truck is one of only six produced in 1939. It was made for the Minneapolis Police Department in response to waves of strikes and protests that had plagued the city for most of the 1930s. The entire body of the truck is quarter-inch armor plate. It has bullet deflectors on the front and rear tires, the radiator has a bullet guard, and the windshield as well as all of the windows are two inches thick. On the windshield, side window, and back window, there are gun ports. You would have been able to carry a lot of ammo in the back. Though this truck was quite fortified, it wouldn’t have been able to get away from a gunfight or catch vehicles in a high-speed chase because it only has 90 horsepower and weighs 5,660 pounds. There’s also a siren and light on the truck. It is not quite the SWAT vehicle of today, but for its day it was probably quite impressive. Top Speed: 45 MPH
