1931 Ford Model AA 2 1/2 Ton

Truck Information:
This 1931 Ford Model AA is equipped with a 201 cubic inch model A four-cylinder engine and makes 40 horsepower. It also features a four-speed transmission. It has an engine-driven air compressor used for trailer air brakes. Modern tractor-trailers can have up to eighteen wheels, ten on the tractor and eight on the trailer. This ride only has fourteen due to the single rear axle of the truck, and has a top speed of 45 MPH. This 1931 Ford Model AA was purchased new by Smith Transfer shortly after the company was founded. It was restored mid-1950’s and placed on display in the Company’s headquarters. The trailer is a Freuhauf Trailer and was ordered by Smith Transfer in 1965. The trailer is 25 feet long with a max capacity of 12,000 pounds. The rig was purchased by Elliott Donnelley in 1989 from the bankruptcy liquidation sale of American Freightways, the successor of Smith Transfer. This truck and trailer joined the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum in early 2024.
