1945 Ford Fuel Tanker

Engine Type:
100 Horsepower 239 CID Flathead V8

Transmission Type:
4-Speed

Truck Information:
This 1945 Ford Fuel Tanker is a wartime truck; there is no chrome except for parts that were added later. Everything was rationed during the war and there was no chrome to be had for civilian manufacturing. The truck – which is more than seventy years old – only has 3,300 total miles on it. It was purchased and used by a fire department that converted its tanks to hold water. There are compartments in the tanks, but they are all hooked together with just one pipe. Most trucks like this were used for home delivery of heating oil, which was widely used in the ‘40s. Chemically, it’s almost identical to diesel fuel. Just imagine what people of the time – who were accustomed to seeing a truck like this delivering heating oil – must have thought when they saw this fuel tanker pull up to a fire and hook up the hoses! Top Speed: 45 MPH
