1911 Walker Electric Model 43

Engine Type:
3.5 Horsepower 84-Volt DC Electric Motor

Transmission Type:
Load Capacity of 6,000 Pounds

Truck Information:
Everyone thinks that electric powered vehicles are a new idea! This was a milk delivery truck in downtown Chicago for the Bowman Dairy Company, which delivered milk to hospitals and restaurants. A single charge would allow this truck to travel up to 50 miles. The batteries for it were huge - 400 to 500 pounds - and they were in a wood case with an asphalt coating. The Walker brand was native to Chicago and in production from 1906 to 1942, longer than any other electric truck in the U.S. Every truck they made was electric. The tires on this beauty are solid rubber, so drivers never needed to worry about flats. Iowa 80 bought this truck at an auction in Kansas City. This is truck number 12 made by Walker in 1911 so we know there were at least 11 more of them. This one is very rare. Top Speed: 15 MPH
