1948 Diamond T 201 1 Ton

Engine Type:
Hercules 6-Cylinder Flathead

Transmission Type:
4-Speed

Truck Information:
In addition to making tow trucks, dump trucks, delivery vans, buses, fire engines, and several other heavy-duty commercial vehicles, Diamond T also made a pickup. The Diamond, known for its famous trademark of a gold-bordered green diamond with a "T" in the middle, is a highly sought-after collector’s item. This 1948 one-ton pickup cost nearly twice as much as a comparable Ford or Chevrolet at the time – about $2,000. This is a high-end truck; the grill and the trim are stainless steel. It has semi-style spoke wheels and hydraulic brakes. You were stylin’ and profilin’ in this truck, even if you didn’t mean to be. Driving this truck was not like driving a pickup today. It has a solid front axle rather than an independent front suspension. It’s narrow and doesn’t have much power. Additionally, the truck doesn’t have a smooth ride. On the road, it seems a little top-heavy. The Diamond T also lacks power steering and power brakes. It’s a good thing that it wouldn't go very fast because the brakes at the time were not as dependable as they are today. Top Speed: 45-50 MPH
